Cam Club... about time.

I just read this from the White-Wolf website: )

So if this is the case, I will be very excited. The reason why I left the cam club in the first place was because of A)Lack of local games and B)Did not like most of the new world. Right now I own a LARP company, and also run a second game... but if other people in the area actually took the initiative to start up the old domain I know that not only would I go... but I would bring other people with me.

We actually need people who are willing to do the jobs instead of just collecting prestige, however.

Repo! The Genetic Opera

This past Sunday a small group of us made the trip out to New York to see Repo! The Genetic Opera, and I have to say that the hype was correct... it is a cult classic in the makings. I went to the theater expecting cheese and was stunned with complex acting, incredible music, wonderful imagery, and just enough chuckles and blood to keep you expecting anything.

Overall, I think it is sad that Repo! will not enjoy the same mass release that most movies will have, however I am happy that I got to see it before it is released to DVD and Blueray. Without a doubt I will be having a Repo! viewing night and sing along for those of you unable to make it to the theater.

I leave you with one of my favorite songs from the film...

All-Call NPCs for Squirrel Con 6

So it's time for The New Dream's 6th camp out and we are doing our casting call for the event.

This event "When in Rome, do as the Romani do." is the much anticipated sequel to Squirrel-Con 4 "The Celestial Circus". Again, we will need violin players, drummers, jugglers, carnies, gypsy, fire spinners, and other performers and actors. This is a great time to try out this LARP if you haven't before since NPCing for the weekend makes the event free for you. All you need to provide is your own tent and food, and we will take care of your camping rental space fee.

NPC's need to pre-register with me so that we can staff our performers appropriately and set camping space aside as needed. Last time we had a great set of performers and NPCs, and we will really need to raise the bar to try to outdo our earlier performance. If you have never LARPed before, and you are willing and interested, we will teach you all you need to know before the event.

The event is June 6th-8th, and NPCs need to confirm that they will be present no later than May 25th.

So this year my big goal with fire spinning is to introduce movement more and more into the tricks. I haven't hit a year yet of fire spinning, so I am looking forward to what progress I can make this year compared to last year.

I should have a firebreak gathering coming up soon as well.

Information on plastic.

If you look at plastic containers before you buy, just check out the code inside the recycle symbol. It will tell you what kind of impact this product will have on the environment:

Code 1: Safe for use, recyclable
Code 2: Safe for use, recyclable
Code 3: Could leech dangerous plasticizers, not recyclable
Code 4: Safe for use, recyclable at plastic bag recycle centers
Code 5: Safe for use, recycled with some road side programs
Code 6: Could leech plasticizers and carcinogenicities, not recyclable
Code 7 PC: Unknown content, not recyclable
Code 7 PLA: Safe for use, can be safely composted

I would ask that everyone try to make a concerted effort to purchase products that are packaged with Code 7 PLA if they can not avoid plastic all together. For ease of use, here are some links where Code 7 PLA products can be cheaply ordered for your disposable needs:

Please encourage businesses you work for, and people you know, to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

Dear friends,

Tibetans have exploded onto the streets in frustration--call on China to respect human rights and enter dialogue with the Dalai Lama now:

Sign the Petition!

After decades of repression under Chinese rule, the Tibetan people's frustrations have burst onto the streets in protests and riots. With the spotlight of the upcoming Olympic Games now on China, Tibetans are crying out to the world for change.

The Chinese government has said that the protesters who have not yet surrendered "will be punished". Its leaders are right now considering a crucial choice between escalating brutality or dialogue that could determine the future of Tibet, and China.

We can affect this historic choice--China does care about its international reputation. China's President Hu Jintao needs to hear that the 'Made in China' brand and the upcoming Olympics in Beijing can succeed only if he makes the right choice. But it will take an avalanche of global people power to get his attention--and we need it in the next 48 hours.

The Tibetan Nobel peace prize winner and spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama has called for restraint and dialogue: he needs the world's people to support him. Click below now to sign the petition--and tell absolutely everyone you can right away--our goal is 1 million voices united for Tibet:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/tibet_end_the_violence/9.php

China's economy is totally dependent on "Made in China" exports that we all buy, and the government is keen to make the Olympics in Beijing this summer a celebration of a new China, respected as a leading world power. China is also a very diverse country with a brutal past and has reason to be concerned about its stability -- some of Tibet's rioters killed innocent people. But President Hu must recognize that the greatest danger to Chinese stability and development comes from hardliners who advocate escalating repression, not from Tibetans who seek dialogue and reform.

We will deliver our petition directly to Chinese officials in London, New York, and Beijing, but it must be a massive number before we deliver the petition. Please forward this email to your address book with a note explaining to your friends why this is important, or use our tell-a-friend tool to email your address book--it will come up after you sign the petition.

The Tibetan people have suffered quietly for decades. It is finally their moment to speak--we must help them be heard.

With hope and respect,

Ricken, Iain, Graziela, Paul, Galit, Pascal, Milena, Ben and the whole Avaaz team

PS - It has been suggested that the Chinese government may block the Avaaz website as a result of this email, and thousands of Avaaz members in China will no longer be able to participate in our community. A poll of Avaaz members over the weekend showed that over 80% of us believed it was still important to act on Tibet despite this terrible potential loss to our community, if we thought we could make a difference. If we are blocked, Avaaz will help maintain the campaign for internet freedom for all Chinese people, so that our members in China can one day rejoin our community.

Looking forward to my list of events this weekend:

Tonight: Dinner with Ashley, then meeting with Lex and Adam.

Saturday: Dance Class, followed by Lost LARP (pending time allotment, short game far distance), followed by spending some time hanging out with friends... probably going out to dinner.

Sunday: Cheesefest. Our annual fund raiser/day playing games is raising money for helping the people of Burma. We have a raffle, a day laughing and having a good time, and try to hit the goal of a thousand dollars. This is open to anyone who wants to come down and participate (not just my regular players), it will be at Saint Josephs college in the Crystal Room.

Catching up.

A review: Changeling the Lost

  • Aug. 21st, 2007 at 9:15 AM
buddha
So despite the fact that every time so far that I pick up a new world of darkness game White-Wolf defecates on it's dedicated fan base... I found myself with my hands on Changeling: The Lost .

And I have to say, way to pull through with a winner.

So the game base itself runs off of a new twist of the traditional legends. The PCs by definition are not fae, nor half bloods, but instead are the humans that have been taken away as slaves to Faerie. Think of the old legends of fae stealing babies and leaving sickly changelings in there place...

...instead, you are the one that was stolen and a fetch made of bits and pieces of stuff and a portion of your shadow takes over where you were. The fetch is just as much human as you are, so to speak, and loves what you loved and lived the life that you once had.

Now as a Changeling, you are a human who has been dragged through the hedge by your inhuman fae master who is more of an embodiment of a concept within a season than a flesh and blood human-esque creature. Your masters, while you were a slave, used you to some means... and in doing so have changed your flesh and body forever. Some are abused, and to survive become monsters. Some are experimented on, or serve their master as craftsmen. Some are amusement, and some can even be considered pets or beasts of labor. You have even been able to learn forms of magic so that you can serve your masters better.

Eventually, you escape back through the hedge to reality. Now a creature that is not quite human, fae glamour hides what you are to all except other fae. As well, upon returning, you find that time does not pass the same in faerie as it does in the real world. While you may have aged ten years, you can return to find that either thirty or one year has passed.

The system and the organization for the game are sound, with the mechanics being somewhat streamlined. The writers took heavy notes from Dark Ages Fae, and worked the system in a similar way. The political structure and reason for coming together is written into the design of the world, and lastly (an in my opinion it's crowning feature)the games primary theme is madness.

In the end, I would say that this is possibly the first time that White-Wolf has released a new world of darkness game that is an improvement over the old world version.

It looks as if I will be running this if nothing else as a table top game, and possibly an independent larp. The costume possibilities are endless.

Breakfast of Champions.
I already stopped down at the Hamden voting office this morning and put my votes in.

I am begging all of you to go out and do the same today. We have become a culture of apathy and disinterest, and expressing your right to vote is the smallest thing that we can do to help break that.
